Job Description


To support and promote the effort to modernize operations and ensure continued focus on the transformation of training, technology and processes within an ongoing learning environment, the OJT Coach role will focus on coaching, mentoring and developing NIPSCO field employees and providing support and feedback to employees and leadership.

The OJT Coach will develop employees through hands-on training and knowledge transfer to ensure they are successful in their roles, are properly trained and are able to execute work efficiently, safely and in compliance with all federal, state, local and company requirements. 

  • Monitor and evaluate employee progression through the OJT phase of learning by answering questions, providing feedback and one-on-one coaching and mentoring.
  • Complete skills and needs assessments to ensure assigned employees are properly applying knowledge and skills acquired through training.
  • Work closely with the Work Management Center and Field Leadership to ensure job assignments are aligned with employees OJT curriculum development plan.
  • Develop and assess training needs by building and maintaining strong collaborative partnerships with NIPSCO Operations leadership/management.
  • Provide feedback and assist with developing alternative training methods if expected improvements are not observed.
  • Sound decision making as to the progression/disqualification of Apprentices/Probationary employees within their program
  • Keep current with advancements in technology, changes in regulatory requirements, and updates to technical training and standards.
  • Promote the necessary environment for professional and effective coaching and mentoring.
  • Evaluate modes of skill evaluation, such as hands-on, virtual or reviewing previous training materials.
  • Prepare correspondences and reports to measure and track performance and progress.
  • Prepare and present information to internal and external groups.
  • Initiate continuous improvement and lead cross functional teams in implementing improvements.
  • Conduct technical training classroom courses as needed.
  • Collaborate with Technical Trainers to ensure what is being training is performed in the field
  • Directing the workforce as needed.

Required for Selection:

  • Minimum five years experience in field operations, training or related experiences.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in assigned areas.
  • Knowledge of regulatory/OQ requirements.
  • Excellent communication/presentation/interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others and build ongoing working relationships.
  • Basic computer skill proficiency.
  • Valid driver¿s license.
  • Flexible schedule.
  • Ability to travel within the service territory as needed to perform evaluations
