Job Description

Responsibilities

Purpose:

Effectively participates on a variety of project teams that provide a wide range of internal and external market research to NiSource.  The incumbent will provide dedicated analysis, support and collaboration across functions in supporting the development and communication of appropriate strategies, programs and plans necessary to address current and future issues facing our environment across NiSource. They will evaluate, make recommendations and drive to closure specific projects related to regulatory strategy and industry best practices. Interacts internally with Accounting, Finance, Tax, Regulatory, Legal, New Business and other functional areas to accomplish tasks related to corporate strategy.

  • Develop accurate, timely research and analysis of strategic issues
  • Create effective and innovative solutions in partnership across functions for company issues, problems and concerns.
  • Develop compelling communication that effectively conveys key strategic initiatives to internal parties. 

Essential Responsibilities:

Lead Strategy Analyst

  • Support the corporate strategy development and planning process by conducting strategic analyses, with an in-depth understanding of industry trends and corporate performance
  • Perform industry, competitor, and customer analysis; monitor and evaluate impact of trends; watch for key opportunities and barriers; gather quantitative and qualitative data; conduct analysis and derive forward-looking insight
  • Conduct analysis to understand absolute and relative performance in NiSource¿s business units
  • Perform insightful business analysis and research that evaluates the financial, market, and regulatory environments through the lens of customers and other stakeholders
  • Create spreadsheets to model complex financial decisions and/or analyze data
  • Support cross-functional teams to evaluate high value issues and develop actionable alternatives for decision makers
  • Assist in the development and construction of executive level presentations for key projects
  • Communicate with team members to clearly define requested information and reconcile input data received to ensure consistency and reliability
  • Support and lead portions of the corporate strategy development and planning process by conducting strategic analyses, with an in-depth understanding of industry trends and corporate performance
  • Lead and perform industry, competitor, and customer analysis; monitor and evaluate impact of trends; watch for key opportunities and barriers; gather quantitative and qualitative data; conduct analysis and derive forward-looking insight

Qualifications

 Required for Selection:

  • Requires BS/ BA degree in business, accounting, finance, economics or related field (MBA, MPA, PhD) preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision in an accurate and timely manner
  • At least 4+ years of relevant business experience (e.g., corporate strategy, accounting, financial planning, etc.)
  • Record of outstanding academic achievement
  • Strong understanding of financial concepts
  • Ability to recognize strategic implications of problems and issues.
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Able to successfully lead and coordinate projects and supervise project team members

Preferred for Selection:

All levels of Regulatory Strategy Analyst

  • Demonstrated strong financial acumen.
  • Experience in a large, multi-divisional company or organization.
  • Experience working with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates ability to exercise independent judgment and initiate solutions.
  • People skills ¿ ability to consult, listen, and provide solutions.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and work well with other departments and individuals outside direct line of control.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment; ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Understanding of economic/econometric concepts.
  • Strong computer skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Time may be required outside of traditional business hours
