Job Description

Introduction

Purpose:

The Data Analyst is an advanced level position within Gas Operations responsible for contributing, both individually and as a team, to the predictive/ analytical modeling, data mining, advanced analytics, data insights, governance and quality, and research on large scale, complex data sets. This resource will provide value added business intelligence (qualitative and quantitative data) and prepare historical, forecast and predictive analysis to enable leaders to make informed decisions and meet or exceed damage prevention goals and objectives. The data analyst will be responsible for supporting and/or developing damage prevention metrics and external trends/best practices.

Responsibilities

Sr. Damage Prevention Data Analyst

Principle Duties/Essential Responsibilities:

  • Use statistical analysis, graphical modeling, text mining and other analytical techniques from data sets to draw conclusions and results
  • Measure, manipulate, report and disseminate broad sets of data and associated conclusions
  • Conduct daily review and analysis of damage prevention performance data and evaluate risks in the field
  • Provide forecast and actuals for monthly damage prevention performance metrics
  • Investigate significant or questionable changes in metrics and results, ensuring data quality and governance
  • Identify improvement areas for data and metrics and pose recommendations
  • Create and populate reports and established scorecards
  • Maintaining the catalogue of source data for reports
  • Collaborate with data owners internal and external to damage prevention, to contribute to the development of data models for analytics

Lead Damage Prevention Data Analyst

Includes Sr. Damage Prevention Data Analyst duties plus:

Principle Duties/Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serve as point of contact for coordinating data strategy and solutions with vendors/IT
  • Make recommendations and present findings for identified data and metric improvement areas
  • Conduct workshops to identify and/or analyze enhancement or sustainability requirements
  • Identify and make proposals for analytical tools and/or best practices regarding data analysis for consideration by DP Leadership Team
  • Assist and lead in identifying, troubleshooting and resolving DP data, software and/or system issues as well as proactively mitigating risks and issues
  • Serve as a peer coach or mentor to other members of the Strategy and Intelligence team to build analytics capabilities
Qualifications

Sr. Damage Prevention Data Analyst:

  • 3-5 years of experience or equivalent experience in a related field
  • Knowledge in predictive analysis and supporting tools (SAS, R, SPSS)
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw well supported conclusions for the business to take action
  • Manage business user relationships and expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines with quality (attention to detail)
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel ¿ pivot tables, macro creation, and statistical analysis, as well as, SQL query experience and familiarity with Data Warehousing
  • Ability to think critically
  • Self-directed in initiating action, prioritizing and managing multiple task with limited supervision
  • Ability to consolidate, perform audits, and manage sets of large data to ensure quality  of information (model data management skills)

Lead Damage Prevention Data Analyst:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience or equivalent experience in a related field
  • Advanced knowledge in predictive analysis and supporting tools (SAS, R, SPSS)
  • Ability to propose solutions to problems leveraging data-driven facts enabling the business to take action
  • Manage business user relationships and expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines with quality (attention to detail)
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel ¿ pivot tables, macro creation, and statistical analysis, as well as, advanced SQL query experience and familiarity with Data Warehousing
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Self-directed in initiating action, prioritizing and managing multiple task with limited supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Technology, Math, Economics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent related experience

Preferred for Selection: 

  • Six Sigma certification or experience in process mapping and controls
  • Experience with a BI Software and visualization tool, such as Tableau
  • Innovative thinking
  • Knowledge of utility operations (i.e. gas, electric, construction, engineering)
  • Knowledge of the damage prevention process (i.e. one call and safe digging laws)
