The Agile Transformation Coach role is a senior member of the IT Services team, responsible for developing and leading agile transformation efforts across the organization.  This role acts as a change agent to improve NiSource¿s effectiveness by coaching leadership, programs, and teams to facilitate lean-agile adoption and maturity.  Agile practices include: Kanban, Agile, Scrum, and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).  The Agile Transformation Coach will work with co-located and distributed teams, helping them to fully understand how to apply the Agile framework to delivering software in a complex utility environment.  This includes supporting teams with their Lean Agile transformation, coaching key Lean principles, Agile practices & ceremonies, and supporting the NiSource Agile community.  Some travel is expected (up to 15%).

This position will report directly to the Vice-President, IT Services and will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop an Agile Transformation Roadmap
  • Deliver and support full Agile transformation roll-outs
  • Collaborate directly with business and IT teams to coach, mentor and guide them on the mechanics of Lean and Agile principles in order to achieve optimal team effectiveness
  • Provide coaching and training at all levels in an emerging Agile environment - Assess the current organization and delivery environment and recommend optimal Agile practices tailored to NiSource 


  • Quickly establish collaborative partnership with key stakeholders to ensure leadership buy-in across both Business and IT - Become a strategic partner in organizational road mapping and structure to drive increased ROI / customer value, greater adoption and higher transformation success
  • Develop metrics for agile maturity, value delivery and team effectiveness and apply them
  • Help teams continuously reflect and improve, becoming more effective in their roles, and increasing their predictability, collaboration, and quality practices
  • Keep abreast of new and evolving techniques, methods and strategies in Agile, Scrum and Kanban and other delivery frameworks
  • Agile Transformation roadmap development
  • Provide Agile Leadership coaching and training to ScrumMasters, Product Owners, functional managers, and executives
  • Create, build, and deliver customized Agile training
  • Prepare and deliver effective communications both verbally and orally regarding progress and status  to all agile stakeholders
  • Create, launch, and facilitate Agile collaborative groups, Communities of Practice, and Agile Working Groups.
  • A track record of leadership in driving Agile transformation in large organizations
  • Proven knowledge of the application of Agile at scale and demonstrated ability to coach and lead the cultural and organizational change to make it work
  • Proven knowledge and practical experience of agile software development methodologies, values, and procedures
  • Strong executive communication and influence skills, extending not just to the what and how of agile change, but also the why
  • Required at least one of the following certification: Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Certified Product Owner (CSPO), or Agile Practitioner (ACP). Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), Certified Scrum Trainer (CST), Certified Team Coach (CTC), or Certified Enterprise Coach (CEC) preferred
  • 5+ years experience working with/implementing Agile, Scrum
  • 10+ years of experience in IT full development life cycle and project management experience
  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, MIS or equivalent combination of education and experience.
