Introduction

Our department is a dynamic, fast paced environment with responsibility to provide all aspects of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) support for NiSource and their subsidiaries.

FP&A supports NiSource through variance analysis, reporting, and business decision support by partnering with the business to execute and achieve financial and operational targets. FP&A enables execution of strategic direction through the setting of intelligent financial targets that account for shareholder and customer value. FP&A supports effective process and data governance through transparency and accountability of the data the business relies on for decision making. FP&A also supports regulatory filings with forecasted information.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE:  Provides value-added financial services to both internal and external customers.  The incumbent may assume responsibility for financial activities, including but not limited to reviewing and interpreting the impact of financial reporting proposals promulgated by governing bodies; preparing analytical studies on historical, forecast, and pro-forma financial data; developing comprehensive financial data reports for both internal and external customers; and providing other needed expertise and reporting to accurately reflect and manage financial matters.

  • Identifies and understands issues, problems, and opportunities; compares data from different sources to draw conclusions; uses effective approaches for choosing course of action or developing appropriate solutions; takes action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences.   • Compiles, organizes and formats data, including qualitative analysis required for internal and external reporting.  Identifies and researches reporting issues, provides recommendations, assists with the adoption of new reporting requirements. (Reporting)
  • Recognizes situations where the regulatory framework and rate case outcomes drive our business;  Supports regulatory initiatives by gathering data and preparing regulatory schedules and/or preparing pro-forma calculations, testimony and data requests; Assists with review and analysis of regulatory documents;  Appreciates the application of the regulatory construct to our business. Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for FP&A Financial Analyst Job Family

FP&A Senior Financial Analyst

  • Knowledge proficiency of Finance and Accounting principles, including the relationships between segments of the financial statements (e.g. balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow)
  • Build financial models to understand and quantify an impact to the business.
  • Analyze information from a variety of sources to detect trends, associations, cause-effect relationships and other anomalies and make recommendations.
  • Effectively manage time to ensure deadlines are met and quality is achieved.
  • Consistently builds relationships and work collaboratively with different parts of finance as well as other parts of NiSource.

FP&A Lead Financial Analyst

  • Knowledge proficiency of how an energy company generates revenue and the ability to understand and explain how the financial statements flow through and impact customer bills and NiSource Earning Per Share.
  • Develop and leverage relationships within and across work groups to achieve results.
  • Recommend the most effective course of action after evaluating options against decision criteria.
  • Gain others' commitment to take action that will enhance value for business partners and/or customers.
  • Build detailed analytical models, analyze data and make fact based recommendations that support business decisions.
  • Lead processes and/or improvement projects.

 KEY WORK EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION

All analyst levels

  • Requires 4 year degree in business discipline
  • Requires knowledge of PC applications
  • Prefer CPA
  • Prefer MBA

 Senior Analyst

  • 2-4 years of experience in finance, accounting, regulatory or a related field
  • Requires multiple functional experience

 Lead Analyst

  • 4 years or more experience in finance, accounting, regulatory or a related field
  • Requires multiple functional experience
