Successful applicants will become integral members of the department, while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with managers on important projects.  These positions will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in Safety and Health-related fields.  Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities.  Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry. 

Opportunities will include working in the following business disciplines:

Safety- Gas Operations Department

The intern will gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment performing functions such as safety auditing, OHSA recordkeeping, safety training, safety program development, incident investigation and coaching field workers.

Safety- Capital Construction, Generation and Power Delivery Department

The intern will gain experience providing support for the capital execution group performing construction activities using external business partners. This includes internal safety training activities, contractor oversight, project safety planning. The work in Generation and Power Delivery will include safety program implementation supporting electric power generation and distribution.

Corporate Safety and Health Department

The intern will gain hands-on experience in performing functions such as safety program and procedure development, leadership safety presentations, OSHA recordkeeping, safety statistics, industrial hygiene, SDS management and safety material development.

Location flexible within Pennsylvania and Massachusetts based on successful candidate.

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university with major in Safety and Health or related business discipline
  • Completion of intermediate-level coursework
  • Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Strong safety acumen and analytical ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and Word
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
