Job Description

Introduction

This role will work closely with the VP of Applications, IT Leadership and project delivery teams responsible for successfully leading the implementation of Agile methodology and driving the related organizational change.  NiSource is transforming its technology delivery practices to leverage agile frameworks, principles and tools. This transformation is expected to improve the outcomes of our IT investments by: Increasing agility and time to value; Improving quality, security and resiliency; Increasing delivery and operational efficiency; and Strengthening business collaboration, ownership and partnership.

This role will ensure all Agile values and principles are followed, and will take on the responsibility of a coach or facilitator while serving the team and eliminating obstacles. The goal of the Agile Coach is to improve teams of developers and overall project management by increasing collaboration and innovation and introducing techniques that promote adaptability and flexibility. This individual must be a servant leader and able to work collaboratively with others by building and maintaining good working relationships throughout the organization. 

Responsibilities
  • Must have expert knowledge of Agile Practices, Values and Principles 
  • Accountable for educating leaders, employees and contractors at all levels on the Agile methodology and best practices and creating and driving an Agile adoption strategy
  • Responsible for driving the development and continuous improvement of Agile tools and templates
  • Accountable for leading / motivating / partnering with a team of cross-functional members who may have varying levels of Agile experience and building an environment of trust and collaboration
  • Ensure Agile ceremonies are followed including sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, etc. and regularly occur
  • Responsible for ensuring that product planning and backlog grooming take place
  • Responsible for leading the estimating and sizing efforts
  • Capable of partnering with the product owner/business partners to co-create value and communicate with all levels of stakeholders
  • Responsible for evangelizing NiSources Agile transformation throughout the organization and teaches Scrum to the team; ensure the team adheres to Agile values and Scrum Practices
  • Motivate and coach the team; guide the team to self-organization, continuous improvement and cross-functionality and coach the team in modern development practices
  • Ability to identify and avoid or remove impediments by actively monitoring risks, escalate issues or concerns when appropriate to ensure business and project objectives are met
  • Responsible for creating dashboard and metrics to report and manage health as well as providing routine communication and updates to senior leadership and management
  • Other duties assigned by management
Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 - 7+ years of technology project management experience and a minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing Agile Coach
  • Agile Coach Certification highly preferred
  • Strong familiarity and adherence to core Agile values and principles
  • Evidence of ability to lead, guide, and coach agile teams
  • Strong teaming skills, collaboration, negotiation, communication, organizational, people management and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience working closely with service providers
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

Additional Information (optional):

  • Utility experience
  • Experience with other Agile/Lean practices (e.g., Kanban)
  • Experience in software development
  • Knowledge / experience using testing tool like HP ALM and Agile development tools like JIRA
