NiSource is currently seeking Summer Interns within the Information Technology (IT) Departments including Enterprise Architecture, IT Project Delivery / Project Management Office (PMO), IT Strategy, and IT Security in Columbus, OH and Merrillville, IN locations.  Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects.  These positions will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in an Information Technology field.  Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities.  Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry.

Opportunities are available in the following disciplines:

Enterprise Architecture

Enterprise Architecture is responsible for creating the technology strategy and roadmap.  This team is responsible for developing standards and guidelines that should be used in planning, designing and implementing Information Technology applications and platforms. This team works collaboratively with other groups to drive the architecture vision for NiSource.  Opportunities within Enterprise Architecture include: 

Information Management:  Establish governance processes for Enterprise Information Management. Provide business analysis and documentation in support of the governance activities.  Work with the team to establish central data modeling repository

Application Portfolio Management:Conduct weekly operational reviews. Perform quality checks of input into the operational tools to support APM.  Develop reports for APM.

IT Project Delivery / Project Management Office (PMO)

IT Project Delivery delivers projects to fulfill business requests as defined in our IT Strategy.  This role will assist the PMO with continuous process improvement and project management process reviews. Candidates will assess quantitative information, create an action plan for improvement and launch an effort with assistance from PMO Staff. The role would primarily assist in developing and providing metrics for IT and Business projects.  Metrics include project status, milestone completion and resource hour tracking for multiple providers. 

IT Security

The IT Security organization is responsible for the resolution of IT Security incidents; manages preparation & planning for future IT security threats, and follows security trends, threats and vulnerabilities. This role will work on a project to develop and execute a specific cyber incident response scenario exercise and develop a broad-view perspective of the cybersecurity space. Incident response improvement with better Integration of security and IT Operations processes. Work across towers to understand the interrelationships between IT Operations processes, and our company as a whole.


  • Major in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related IT discipline.
  • Required GPA 3.0 and above.
  • Solid skills in utilizing computers, operating systems, mobile devices and software (MS Office Suite, MS Project, and other IT applications).
  • Excellent analytical abilities, including process analysis and development, problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
