Job Description

Introduction

To effectively manage all Accounting activities and provide value added services to both external and internal customers. To manage and oversee the preparation of the financial records and the financial statements of the assigned subsidiary company in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and federal and state regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensures accuracy of financial books and financial results.
  • Responsible for the financial closing of assigned subsidiary company(ies).
  • Manages all financial reporting activities, both internal and external, for the reporting segment in accordance with required internal and external reporting deadlines.
  • Performs financial statement analysis and provides variation explanations to, Corporate Accounting and external auditors
  • Designs, develops, updates, monitors and directs testing of internal controls as necessary in order to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Interacts with management, consolidation accounting, financial planning, state financial and regulatory staffs, internal and external auditors, and other NiSource companies to maximize customer expectations.
  • Assures compliance with system policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Ensures that all data required to support regulatory initiatives and proceedings is prepared and provided in a timely manner for consideration and filing.
  • Demonstrates leadership through functional knowledge and personnel skills resulting in a highly motivated staff.
  • Collaborate with Manager of Process Excellence and other stakeholders to drive process improvement initiatives for more efficient and effective accounting processes.

  • Proven ability to provide expert technical advice to others in an accurate, timely and understandable manner.
  • Experience of managing and integrating accounting tasks at various levels of complexity and demonstrates the ability to provide direction, the appropriate structure and effective resourcing to enable the team to deliver high performance.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university. Requires BS/BA in accounting, finance or other business discipline.
  • Prefer 3-5 years of relevant work experience in accounting or finance.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of accounting systems. Solid working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proven management / leadership experience
  • Collaborative management style

Preferred for Selection:

  • MBA
  • CPA
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of SEC reporting requirements
