Responsibilities

 Job summary:

This position is a member of an exciting, energized, enterprise-wide Organization Development consulting team that partners with the business and the broader HR community to develop and execute projects and programs to support achievement of business results.

The Columbus, OH or Merrillville, IN - based Organization Development consultant role will work directly with the Sr. Leadership team of NiSource¿s business segments.  While reporting to and being part of a central OD team, this role also participates as a member with the HR team located in Columbus, OH and Merrillville, IN.

The successful candidate will develop and implement collaborative approaches with other members of the Organization Development consulting team and ensure effective planning, implementation, follow-up and sustainability of the Organization Development programs in line with enterprise-wide organization and talent development processes.

 Areas of Expertise:

The successful candidate must have demonstrated expertise in each of the following areas:

 Performance Consulting

  • Identifies risks around requests and specific approaches / deliverables
  • Sees and explains connections between deliverables sought and other factors, e.g., Business Plan goals, related processes, units

 Culture & Change Management

  • Evaluates business strategy to translate into actionable change programs
  • Facilitates the development of change management strategies, building on and expanding a common change management framework with associated methods and tools 
  • Designs and implements programs in support of key culture change initiatives to drive business objectives

 Team Effectiveness

  • Designs and conducts executive, management and project team building and development activities, e.g., start-up and tune-up programs
  • Guides leaders in diagnosing team and cross-team effectiveness and determining improvement plans 

 Organization Analysis & Design

  • Consults in organization restructuring, redesign and talent deployment so that right people are in the right places and so that the workflow between organization units ¿in the white spaces¿ is being conducted in accordance with executive strategic direction 
  • Analyzes organization structure and identify opportunities for improvement to more effectively execute strategy and drive talent development
  • Partners with HR on workforce planning and knowledge management initiatives

 Coaching & Facilitation

  • Facilitates at the leadership level
  • Recognizes opportunities to influence (persuade clients to take a course of action, shift approach, or devote resources) and identifies best strategies to achieve that influence
  • Guides large groups toward outcomes or through conflicts
  • Provides coaching support for leaders, emerging leaders and teams, utilizing assessment tools and style inventories
  • Provides advice, counsel and decision-making support to leaders as they consider organization, team and leadership effectiveness
  • Designs and facilitates large-scale, multi-day leadership meetings and working sessions

 Development

  • Coaches and consults with leaders and individual contributors development
  • Aligns individuals to available corporate-wide development offerings

 Employee Engagement

  • Partners with HR and the business to drive the annual employee engagement survey process to improve employee engagement including follow-up action planning

 Performance Management

  • Consults with leaders to drive a performance management culture
  • Champions use of corporate-wide Performance Management system and process

 Talent Management

  • Principal player in leadership talent identification, assessment, development and coaching to assure targets for leadership needs are met in the future as executive strategy is executed
  • Drives administration of annual talent review and succession planning process in partnership with HR
  • Facilitates the identification and development of leadership talent pools to increase the number and readiness of candidates for future leadership roles 

 Process Improvement

  • Identifies opportunities regarding process analysis and management. Identifies the most effective approach and resources to address the opportunities
  • Assesses organizational performance and identifies opportunities for improvement
  • Coaches business improvement teams through scoping and executing improvement projects

 Learning

  • Identifies learning needs to drive performance results
  • Champions available corporate-wide learning for skill development

  Required for Selection:

  • Bachelors degree in relevant field required.
  • 2 - 7 years experience for OD Consultant or 8+ years experience for Sr. OD Consultant in a role demonstrating solid identification, design and execution of organization development theory and techniques in support of business objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in Organization Development consulting.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating leaders (facilitating senior leaders for Sr. OD Consultant).
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship building and management.
  • Demonstrated coaching experience. 
  • Demonstrated experience in Talent Management
  • Demonstrated capability of working inside a corporate structure while attending to the needs of a single business unit.
  • Demonstrated partnering capability from the OD role with the HR business partners is essential.
  • Demonstrated project scoping and management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working as an independent, autonomous, yet collaborative member of a virtual team. 
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office desktop tools and electronic communications, such as E-mail and calendars required.

Preferred for Selection:

  • Bachelor¿s degree in an applied technical field, such as engineering, computer science, etc. preferred.
  • Masters degree in Business, Organization Development, Organization Psychology,Human Resources Management, Organizational Communicationor related field preferred.
  • PHR or SPHR preferred.
  • Certifications in OD tools/methods, such as MBTI, Facilitation, Coaching, Hogan, etc. preferred.
  • Experience in formal or informal leadership roles ¿ especially operational roles - within an organization preferred.

Travel requirements: 15% to 25%

Position is part of the Organization & Talent Development, geographically dispersed team which provides corporate-wide services.
