Job Description


As part of the NiSource Transmission Integrity Team, this person will be responsible for providing technical expertise in planning, executing, reviewing, analyzing, and reporting all aspects of the Transmission Integrity program.   

Location is flexible within the NIPSCO footprint (Merrillville, Valparaiso, South Bend, Plymouth, Fort Wayne just to name a few)

  • Identify and address pipeline safety issues and operational concerns within different environments throughout the natural gas transmission and distribution pipeline systems 
  • Perform a variety of engineering analyses on complex technical issues 
  • Develop and oversee compliance program activities, actively participate and contribute in the Pipeline Integrity Management programs, including field assessment coordination and project management.
  • Analyze pipeline inspection data and identify indications of coating and pipeline defects.
  • Identify and analyze threats to the pipeline system.
  • Provide input to and performs analysis of pipeline system risk.
  • Develop effective and efficient preventive and mitigative measures to address risk.
  • Utilize internal systems such as geographic information system, transmission risk model, and work management systems to research and inform decision making.
  • Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
  • Participate in IURC Pipeline Safety audits, remain current with changing industry regulation and best practices support safe work practices 
  • Provide training and engineering support to other technical employees, engineers and Operations staff to ensure regulatory and company policy compliance
  • Complete all process documentation requirements of  the Integrity Management Program
  • Develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities and resolve problems/issues.
  • Provide fundamental technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.
  • Ensure accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
  • Continually improve job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
  • Support the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
  • Seek and incorporate feedback from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Seek out and identify continuous improvement opportunities; champion implementation.  
  • Build key partnerships and influence individuals in key external departments and resolve problems/issues.
  • Interpret applicable codes and regulations and instructs Company and/or Industry personnel

 Required for Selection: 

  • Graduate from a four year ABET accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in engineering/technical theories and principles.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Experienced in researching technical design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.

 Preferred for Selection:

  • Experience in the utility industry, especially knowledge or experience related to Pipeline Integrity
  • Experience in materials testing / analysis, metallurgy, statistical analysis
  • Experience with geographic information systems (GIS), and data management & analysis.
  • Working knowledge of industry codes, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures
  • Engineer in Training certificate or Professional Engineer
  • Demonstrated leadership experience over complex programs or projects, and collaborative initiatives with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively negotiate and resolve disputes with a high degree of tact and diplomacy
