Job Description

Introduction

The Process Excellence Manager is responsible for driving process excellence and continuous improvement across groups. The role interacts directly with business unit leaders, department managers and as necessary internal/external audit teams.

The role involves monitoring performance of the different teams in the Shared Service Center, identifying trends, opportunities for process improvement and potential risks, and develop recommendations to leadership based on these. In most cases, this role will be also involved in the implementation of identified improvement opportunities, and training of teams on process changes and general Lean concepts to optimize their work.

The role requires communicating with stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization both within and outside of the Shared Services organization and influencing behavior that will drive refinement and improvement of accounting processes.

Key Results:  

  • Optimize and improve processes and working practices using Six Sigma and Lean methodologies;
  • Drive improvements in the efficiency and effectiveness by aligning process goals with company¿s key initiatives / accountabilities;
  • Deliver refined, thoughtful and data-driven documentation on process excellence;
  • Create a continuous improvement culture and supporting mechanisms.
Responsibilities

Principle Duties/Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage team according to Lean principles ¿ Ensure continuous improvement, process standardization, visual management, metrics & performance drivers are embedded in day-to-day working practices within the Accounting Shared Service Center
  • Perform continous diagnostic  - Establish and monitor KPIs, identify gaps and cost-saving opportunities, and identify relevant strategies to drive process optimization;
  • Manage process excellece programs - Lead timely execution of process excellence programs by managing teams, documenting metrics and communicating with various stakeholders;
  • Increase workforce effectiveness ¿Develop and implement appropriate training strategies to maximize effectiveness and ensure a skilled, positive workforce capable of successfully delivering business objectives;
  • Increase workforce efficiency ¿Provide guidance to Accounting leaders on most effective and efficient use of resources and measuring process improvements;
  • Maintain and leverage internal experience ¿ Disseminate best practices gained through process improvement activities to other activities which would benefit from implementation, creating support for developing, deploying and improving the corporate continuous improvement systems;
  • Measure performance for decision-making ¿Obtain quantitative and qualitative data of business processes to analyze, determine, and promote data driven decisions;
Qualifications

Sleection Criteria: Key Work Experiences/Technical & Functional Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor¿s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or the equivalent combination of training, education, and experience;
  • 5+ years of experience in process improvement, demonstrating flexibility and initiative in achieving the desired outcome;
  • Intermediate knowledge of accounting, through either coursework or prior experience;
  • Strong analytical, management, verbal and written communication, facilitation, organization, problem solving and decision-making skills;
  • Ability to create an inclusive environment of productivity and process excellence;
  • Ability to use process improvement methodologies to ensure successful project implementation;
  • Experience in the development and implementation of metrics and standards;
  • Experience in analysing issues to recommend, develop and implement strategies and achieve objectives;
  • PC Tools Skills:  Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;
  • Prior exposure to and familiarity with main concepts of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, or equivalent)

Preferred:

  • CPA, MBA or accounting degree
  • Experience in a service operations environment
  • Prior experience in the Utilities sector
  • Knowledge of regulated accounting environment (e.g. GAAP, FERC, DOE)
  • Knowledge of IAA standards
  • Prior experience with automation of processes
  • Formal certification in one or more continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma Green Belt certification or above, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with Peoplesoft and Powerplant

Travel Required: This job requires travel to NiSource facilities, up to 5-10% of the time.
