Job Description

  • Integrate and manage NIPSCO Major Projects.  Apply Project Management proficiency and provide expanded Project Management services to the Major Projects organization.  Apply PM Performance Area proficiency (initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closure) competence along with project management knowledge area processes, tools, techniques, and project management information system (PMIS) to designated Major Projects.  Apply NIPSCO general management skills and proficiency, apply a project life cycle methodology using project management performance area management, knowledge area management, project management processes, interpersonal skills, project management tools and techniques to define and achieve the project objectives.
  • Perform initial schedule management planning and generate the initial project schedule using project initiation criteria.   Progressively elaborate the project schedule using schedule planning and project planning processes.  Generate the project schedule performance baseline.  Status the project schedule baseline during project execution.  Maintain the project schedule baseline using schedule monitoring and controlling processes and earned value management; applying preventive schedule management (threat/corrective action prevention).  Close schedule activities and contractor schedules upon validated completion of project activity work. 
  • Develop proficiency in integration management.  Apply integration management to the coordination and management of project human resources.  Utilize performance based management to accentuate and drive existing PM knowledge area performance and to increase the probability of achieving the designated project's objectives. Expand the utilization of project (process improvement, quality assurance, and quality control) assessment and personal assessment processes, tools, and techniques.
  • Expand project management capability and competence using industry standards (AACE, PMI, Construction Management Industry, etc.) and best practice application to expand knowledge base and optimum project delivery application.
  • Engage project stakeholders to own their part of the project vision and objectives.  Engage the stakeholders to create their components of an integrated project management plan.  Facilitate project management team performance by anticipating and satisfying stakeholder requirements and needs during the life cycle of the project.
  • Expand proficiency and versatility in project management processes, tools, and techniques to tailor the PM tools to the specific needs of the project, including standards, job aids, and project management information systems.
  • Employs project integration processes to effectively initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control, and effectively transient the project to the customer and ensure project objective accomplishment.
  • Integrate competence in the product life cycle components to the definition and management of non-product objectives (safety, cost, schedule, human resource, etc.)  Expand competence in integration management to align project resources for optimal productivity.  Implements product to project scope configuration management.  Apply expanding interpersonal skills to lead, manage, and direct the project management team and project stakeholders.
  • Employ quality management processes to effectively initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control, and close out to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Employ risk management processes to effectively initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control, and close out to deliver project objectives.
  • Employ procurement management proficiencies and processes to effectively transfer product and project risk (threats) and exploit, enhance, and share product opportunities to third parties at a fair and equitable price to establish and deliver objective value to both buyer and seller as a result of the project.
  • Employs cost management proficiencies to effectively estimate, budget, and control costs within project objective (success) parameters for the project.
  • Employs schedule management proficiencies to effectively plan, schedule, and deliver the project within the designated project time objective (success) parameters for the project.
  • Employs the NIPSCO risk management utility to the development and management of projects, human resources, and stakeholders.
  • Apply and integrate proficiency in NIPSCO human resource processes and skills to optimize coordination of the project management team performance and ensure optimum coordination is achieved given existing human resource policies and procedures.  Use effective human resource tools and techniques to motivate and drive contractor performance.
  • Effectively engage project stakeholders; employ effective strategies in dealing with negative stakeholders and integrate the project objectives with the composite of individual project stakeholder requirements and expectations.
  • Apply proficiency in effective communication management to manage and control project stakeholders
  • Apply proficiency in project governance and utilize effective communication and objective management to ensure that the project's safety and environmental objectives are realized.
  • The Project Manager will manage the project in accordance with industry best practices, the NIPSCO Organizational Process Assets, the Project Management Guidelines and Standards.

Required for Selection:

  • Expanded project management knowledge base in project management methodology, processes, tools, techniques, and software; increased personal maturity in project management (Level 3 maturity).
  • Expanded comprehension in project management guidelines, standard, processes, and job aids.
  • Expanded proficiency in project management information systems (PMIS) utilization and integration; scheduling software, risk management tools, cost management software, and performance metrics (and dashboards) and tool integration of project controls information.
  • Applies an increasing proficiency in leadership, management, organizational theory, personal, interpersonal skills in a 'situational leadership' application.  Manages project stakeholders using cognitive ability, personal effectiveness, innovation, value based decision-making, integrated communication (soft and hard skills); conflict resolution, and team work.
  • Capability to efficiently perform duties under stringent deadlines, schedules, and conditions. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule. 
  • Must be able to work in areas of high noise, dust, extreme temperatures, confined spaces and potential chemical hazards.
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle operators license.  

Preferred for Selection:

  • Previous experience as project manager

 Education/Work Experience:

 Required for Selection:

  • 4 year Technical Degree plus 4 years technical experience or
  • 7 years project  / architectural-engineering / technical experience or
  • Assistant Project Manager plus 2 years experience as a an APM 

 Preferred for Selection: 

  • 4 year Engineering Degree; PMP PMI Project Management Certification; experience in large industrial Capital Project environments.

 Additional Requirements:

All successful applicants will be required to pass the PMP PMI Project Management certification within either one year of their hire date or one year after the employee meets the necessary requirements to qualify for the examination
