Responsibilities

Responsible for electrical engineering functions to support the safe, efficient operational and maintenance activities for the NIPSCO Sugar Creek Generating Station

Specific responsibilities and duties include:

  • Actively promote a safe working environment and culture, ensuring that all personnel, contractors and visitors follow plant and company safety procedures and policies. 
  • Provide electrical engineering support for NERC compliance and serve as subject matter expert on applicable standards.  
  • Develop and implement plant wide maintenance management programs for electrical components and systems, including motors, breakers, switchgear, substations/switchyards and protective devices.
  • Maintain and continually improve comprehensive plant O&M programs, including
  • Reliability Centered Maintenance programs, preventive and predictive maintenance practices, and operations procedures with specific focus on electrical systems & components. 
  • Project management functions from initial scope development through commissioning/acceptance testing, including bid evaluation, selection and oversight of contractors.
  • Provide long range planning for outages and capital projects.
  • Advise on plant warehousing and inventory to maximize plant availability and performance.
  • Assist with development and administration of training plans and the qualification program for OMTs by providing coaching and training opportunities to ensure appropriate skill sets are maintained.
  • Assist in the development of annual O&M and capital budgets, recommending plant betterment or continuous improvement projects.
  • Occasional supervisory duties in relief of plant management.
  • Respond quickly to plant conditions or requirements which may involve extended and/or abnormal work hours.
  • Stay abreast of technological development within the power industry that could impact plant safety, regulatory compliance, plant production or performance.
  • Effective understanding and administration of the union labor agreement.
  • Perform collateral duties as assigned. 
Qualifications

Required for Selection:

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, block & ladder logic and technical manuals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems, clearly communicate tasks and assignments, and analytical ability to make sound professional judgments and recommendations.
  • Extensive experience in the use of computers and software applications.
  • Ability to productively work independently and as an overall integral plant staff team member.
  • Ability to qualify on all operational watch stations.  This includes the ability to distinguish between colors; ability to climb ladders and to be at heights of 80 -120 feet; ability and dexterity to manipulate various size components from valves to small electrical switches to computer keyboards.
  • Ability to work extended hours, if and when required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.

Preferred for Selection:

  • A thorough understanding of electric generation station operations and maintenance, preferably with combined cycle power plants experience.
  • A working knowledge of NERC reliability compliance, specifically related to generation and transmission operations and ownership.
  • Familiarity with budget development, bid proposals, contract evaluation and basic accounting principles.
Other Information

Organizational Relationships

  • Reports directly to the SCGS Plant Manager.
  • Principal administrative support to be provided by SCGS Budget Analyst.
