Various positions located in Lake County, IN (1 in Hammond & 1 in Gary)

Responsibilities
  • Ensures Power Delivery personnel performs safe work habits according to NIPSCOs Safety Manual.
  • Responsible for conducting field job observations and mitigating at risk findings.
  • Directs and manages the day to day operations of the LOA with specific emphasis on customer satisfaction, timely restoration, maximizing efficiency, and environmental compliance.
  • Maintain distribution and transmission electric system reliability through maintenance and proper operation of equipment in accordance with Dispatching and NIPSCO¿s General Orders.
  • Provide coordination, facilitation and direction in a 24/7 operation which includes participating in a weekly Standby rotation.
  • Communicate openly, clearly and often with direct reports, partners, and customers.
  • Responsible for directing their teams to meet CAIDI, ETR, and customer commitment goals.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings and coordinate field changes to NIPSCO¿s Standards.
  • Inspect job sites prior to work assignments, coordinates material and equipment availability for crews and worksite needs with customer.
  • Complete and submit a proper Request for Clearance in accordance with NIPSCO¿s General Orders.
  • Coaches line crews daily for proper work performance with respect to safety, productivity, and quality to meet and exceed customer satisfaction. Administers corrective action according to the Employees Standards of Conduct.
  • Directs problem solving in the field with respect to system operational difficulties.
  • Ensure all time sheets, vacation schedules, and expense accounts within the area of responsibility are accurately completed and submitted timely.
  • Responsible for evaluating the apprentices performance according to the Lineman Apprenticeship guidelines.
  • Periodically assumes duties of the Superintendent.
  • Participates and completes all compliance training in a timely manner.
  • Participates and occasionally may lead local Safety meetings.
  • Conducts incident investigations and provides preliminary results and recommendations.
  • Responsible for the administration of the collective bargaining unit agreements and grievance procedure.
Qualifications
  • Ability to coach and develop employees.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Ability to use PC and associated software and applications.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with customers and employees.
  • Minimum of a two-year technical degree or two years¿ of electric utility experience, preferred distribution and transmission line experience.
  • A strong business sense of the current economic environment and the desire / dedication to be competitive. 
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills to communicate openly, clearly and frequently. 
  • Ability to encourage teamwork, participation and individual accountability to achieve high expectations. 
  • Ability to document / evaluate employee performance, overtime administration, time keeping requirements, and enforce company policies. 
  • Ability to effectively handle disputes, research and conducts grievance hearings, interpret & apply company / union contract. 
  • Assure personnel employ safe work methods and that personal protective equipment is used. 
  • Control budget expenditures set by the Superintendent.
