Job Description

  • Direct and manage the operation function of coal-fired units with specific emphasis on maximizing unit output and efficiency, environment compliance, and high unit availability.
  • Encourage and expect Operations personnel to practice safe work habits and optimize their productivity and equipment.   
  • Maximize the reliability of the generation assets through coordination of Maintenance and Planning departments and dispatching for prioritization of unit and generating system requirements.
  • Provide coordination, facilitation and direction in support of the day-to-day activities of the station. 
  • Communicate openly, clearly and often.
  • Serve as the station lead management person on back shifts, weekend and holidays.
  • Proven technical competence & understanding of the process of fossil- fueled electric power production.
  • A strong business sense of the current economic environment and the desire / dedication to be competitive. 
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills to communicate openly, clearly and frequently. 
  • Ability to encourage teamwork, participation and individual accountability to achieve high expectations. 
  • Ability to document / evaluate employee performance, perform overtime administration & time keeping requirements and enforce company policies. 
  • Ability to effectively handle disputes, research and conducts grievance hearings, interpret & apply company / union contract. 
  • Assure personnel employ safe work methods and that personal protective equipment is used. 
  • Control Budgetary expenditures set by senior management.


  •    Four year degree or 5+ years working in an industrial setting supervising union employees.
