Job Description



Supervise personnel, oversee and direct operations and maintenance of propane plant, and LNG plant in the Lawrence division of Columbia Gas of Massachusetts. Supervise and direct LNG & LPG  personnel in the maintenance of all gas production systems in the Columbia Gas of Massachusetts' Lawrence Division.

 Essential Responsibilities:

  • Plan work for all electrical, instrumentation work and personnel needed to perform those tasks in the Lawrence division.
  • Research and implement system upgrades/electronic automation to instrumentation and controls throughout plants. Includes research, design, material allocation, communication circuit coordination, wiring diagrams, and training.
  • Maintain records for calibrations, and calibration equipment.
  • Provide field support to SCADA programmers for field-testing of program changes in RTU's.
  • Maintain facility security systems including motorized gate openers, automated card reading devices, video cameras, and monitors.
  • Provide after-hours support through rotating call-out schedule.
  • Provide supervision to LNG& LPG personnel: LNG plant operators, electrician
  • Coordinate LNG Plant activities including trucking, equipment testing, operator preparedness as well as plant availability for season.
  • Coordinate work for mechanics and plant operators.
  • Prepare LP Air Plant for season.
  • Oversee all facility maintenance activity, including grounds, snow removal, HVAC, electrical, and mechanical.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance records and assignments for all instrumentation, plant mechanical, and electrical inspection activity.
  • Coordinate mandated training for LNG & LPG department.
  • Hold regular safety meetings for LNG & LPG department.
  • Act as first contact to contractors doing any work for the LNG & LPG department. Also act as contact between local fire and police departments when performing major work at plants.
  • Stay current with LNG, LP, DOT, DTE, and local codes, regulations, standards, etc.
  • Handle personnel issues: transfers, vacation approval, time card review, credit card purchases. Schedule modification, accident/injury reporting and investigating.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance work order data base and order distribution, record retention and presentation of documentation for audits, including evaluations of, edits to, and new order implementation of work order system and paperwork.
  • Provide supervision and technical support on LNG and Propane plant automated equipment. Also support after business hours (even when not on-call).
  • Coordinate OQ testing for LNG & LPG employees and maintain records.

Required for Selection:

  • Five (5) years experience in natural gas industry.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with quality improvement principles (e.g., process or productivity improvements, SQI's).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of LNG & LPG policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of computer applications (i.e. Microsoft, Word, Excel, Access) and mainframe operations support systems e.g., WMS, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of actions to take when technical, functional and safety problems occur.
  • Strong knowledge of on-the-job safety and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to quickly assess and make sound decisions in emergency situations including participation in the FOL on-call rotation for after-hours coverage for LNG & LPG.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to grasp technical explanations of plant scenarios and draw accurate conclusions.
