Job Description

Introduction

Seeking individuals with a welding background.

The Technical Trainer plans, prepares and delivers training programs to meet the development needs of the employees.  Provides quality, timely and innovative training curriculum, including but not limited to: plant, service, M&R, leakage, corrosion, safety, and applications along with training within Electric Field Operations and Generation job classifications. Maintains working relationships with operations, construction, engineering, customer operations, etc. to meet their business needs.  Assists in course and curriculum development. Takes actions to ensure employees are properly prepared to work safely, effectively and in compliance with all Regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Technical Trainer 1:

  • Participate in learning events that build student knowledge and skill with a primary focus on natural gas, electric and generation transmission and distribution operation and maintenance activities. 
  • Integrate classroom training, hands on practice and simulation, and on the job training (OJT) events that maximize student learning
  • Train learning initiatives that provide practical in field experience for employees
  • Support the development of employees towards masterly level of job positions
  • Assist support services to field operations, construction, corrosion and support operations
  • Assist the coordination, delivery, and facilitation of training programs as needed
  • Promote a safe work environment by actively participating in all aspects of employee safety program and support our interdependent safety culture by ensuring the safety of co-workers   
  • Performs duties under close supervision

  Technical Trainer 2: (Includes Technical Trainer 1 duties plus):

  • Provide learning events that build student knowledge and skill with a primary focus on natural gas, electric and generation transmission and distribution operation and maintenance activities. 
  • Integrate classroom training, hands on practice and simulation, and on the job training (OJT) events that maximize student learning
  • Implement/train learning initiatives that provide practical in field experience for employees
  • Identify/react to learning opportunities, while developing employees towards masterly level of job positions
  • May be required to take disciplinary measures with students
  • Responsible for giving work direction to trainees
  • Applies applicable collective bargaining unit agreement as it pertains to training
  • Provide support services to field operations, construction, corrosion and support operations
  • Collaborate with operations management to identify training needs and deliver programs to ensure compliance
  • Identify needs and participate with Gas and Electric Standard reviews within operations
  • Responsible for the coordination, delivery, and facilitation of all training programs in specified discipline
  • Research current technology and related training by reviewing periodicals, journals, attending seminars, etc.
  • Promote a safe work environment by actively participating in all aspects of employee safety program and support our interdependent safety culture by ensuring the safety of co-workers   

Technical Trainer 3 (Includes Technical Trainer 2 duties plus):

  • Lead learning events that build student knowledge and skill with a primary focus on natural gas, electric and generation transmission and distribution operation and maintenance activities. 
  • Directs classroom training, hands on practice and simulation, and on the job training (OJT) events that maximize student learning
  • Implement/train learning initiatives that provide practical in field experience for employees
  • Identify/react to learning opportunities, while developing employees towards masterly level of job positions
  • May be required to take disciplinary measures with students
  • Responsible for giving work direction to trainees
  • Subject matter expert for curriculum development
  • Applies applicable collective bargaining unit agreement as it pertains to training
  • Provide support services to field operations, construction, corrosion and support operations
  • Collaborate with operations management to identify training needs and deliver programs to ensure compliance
  • Identify needs and participate with Gas and Electric Standard reviews within operations
  • Responsible for the coordination, delivery and facilitation of all training programs in specified discipline
  • Develop working relationships with front line leaders
  • Research current technology and related training by reviewing periodicals, journals, governmental regulations, attending seminars, etc.
  • Promote a safe work environment by actively participating in all aspects of employee safety program and support our interdependent safety culture by ensuring the safety of co-workers   
  • Monitors energy industry trends, analyzes potential impacts and recommends strategic approaches 
Qualifications

Technical Trainer 1:

  • 1+ years of experience in natural gas or electric industry and/or background in training within a related utility, skilled trades, emergency response community, or in training military personnel
  • Experience delivering effective technical training programs
  • Familiarity with State/Federal gas pipeline regulations
  • Excellent communications, presentation, interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of PC applications/skills
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Estimated travel up to 20%

 Technical Trainer 2:

  • 3+ years of experience in natural gas or electric industry and/or background in training within a related utility, skilled trades, emergency response community, or in training military personnel
  • Experience delivering effective technical training & evaluation programs
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operating procedures and processes used in the programs assigned
  • Understanding of State/Federal gas pipeline regulations
  • Excellent communications, presentation, interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of PC applications/skills (PST, LMS, Onboard, WMS, MDTs, etc.)
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Estimated travel up to 20% 

Technical Trainer 3:

  • 5+ years of experience in natural gas or electric utility industry and/or background in training within a related utility, skilled trades, emergency response community, or in training military personnel
  • Extensive experience in delivering effective technical training & evaluation programs
  • Extensive knowledge of maintenance and operating procedures and processes used in the programs assigned
  • Previous experience as a facilitator for various size groups
  • Working knowledge of State/Federal gas pipeline regulations
  • Excellent communications, presentation, interpersonal skills
  • Advanced knowledge of PC applications/skills (PST, LMS, Onboard, WMS, MDTs, etc.)
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Estimated travel up to 20%
